Until recently, you’ve only been able to measure latency passively using WildPackets(R) OmniPeek(R) through our Latency Monitor extension. The disadvantage of this technique is that it relies on packets to go by. This means you’re reacting to problems – you discover latency that exceeds acceptable thresholds after the packet is delayed, that is after a problem has occurred.
Our new Ping Latency Analyzer measures latency actively. This new extension generates traffic at a specified interval so that you can see potential problems as they’re developing. Now your alarms can notify you of excessive latency before applications on the network start dropping packets. Additionally you can compare and correlate multiple servers or IP addresses in one graph for faster problem resolution – at a glance you can determine if the latency is due to the network or the application.
With proactive latency monitoring you’ll be able to detect and correct problems in the network and applications before your end users notice a slowdown.
