Consultant Spotlight Blog – Keith Parsons

About the Consultant Spotlight
Keith ParsonsWildPackets understands that network engineers and IT professionals come in many shapes and sizes and serve in various capacities at every kind of organization. But we also know that they don’t always work in-house and instead sometimes offer their expertise to many organizations as consultants. There is much to be learned from the breadth of experience network consultants acquire as they work with many, often very different, organizations. As such, we are launching the Consultant Spotlight on the WildPackets blog to highlight the work of some of these professionals and hopefully learn a few things along the way. The consultant selected for our inaugural post is Keith Parsons.

Keith Parsons is managing director at Wireless LAN Professionals, a network consultancy firm focused on wireless LAN that is based in Orem, Utah. He is a successful network consultant veteran with more than 20 years of experience in the industry.

Keith’s Tips
The convenience and performance capabilities of Wi-Fi have made wireless the most popular method for connecting to networks. Especially with the rising trend of bring your own device (BYOD), networks are feeling more pressure now than ever before and organizations are being forced to deal with the increased bandwidth requirements and potential security risks.

Through all of his projects, Keith maintains a strong commitment to providing all of his clients “wireless that just works.” For wireless network troubleshooting, this always means turning to packet inspection because, as he says, “packets never lie.” Keith says that looking at packet-level network data is the only way he is able to accurately identify the issue and properly fix it.

About His Work
As a network consultant, Keith has worked with a wide variety of organizations in nearly every industry, including education, healthcare, sports, finance and energy – essentially any one that uses Wi-Fi. Although, he typically works with organizations that have more than 100 access points.

Keith’s work also has a strong international component, with 30 to 40 percent of his operations taking place outside of the U.S. From Norway to Vietnam, he works on projects all over the world, taking him to each habitable continent at least once a year.
